Spiced Nuts

Sweet Spicy mixed nuts party snack

This is the time of year you’ll find me in the kitchen, music on, glass of wine or festive cran-apple juice, cooking up a storm. My heart is in the kitchen, where I explore my creativity and show my love to others through food. For years I’ve been making a double and even triple batch of these earthy, warmly spiced nuts with a little hint of sweetness. My holiday guests happily snack on them from festive bowls set on the counter, on the coffee table and everywhere in between.

The recipe is so easy and crave-worthy that even my teens have joined me in the kitchen for a fun morning of mixing, baking and stealing a few handfuls to fuel their never ending growth and hunger.

Easy Spiced Nuts Mason Jar Gift

You can add any nut to the mix depending on your taste. We start with cashews, almonds, walnuts and pecans, sometimes adding in hazelnuts and peanuts depending on who we plan to give them to. Next, we drizzle water (or butter if you really want to wow your guests) whisked with maple syrup over the nuts and mix. Then we add a liberal dusting of the warm, festive spices: cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and chili powder with salt and pepper and pop them in the oven on a sheet tray.

The result is a beautifully fragrant spicy and sweetnut mix that also makes the perfect gift. After the spiced nuts cool and we’ve portioned out half for entertaining and snacked to our content, we package them in mason jars with a little ribbon for friends, colleagues, teachers, family — everyone down to the mailman. They’re easy, delicious and show our care as a homemade gift along with our favorite homemade mason jar granola.
